A Comprehensive Guide To Concrete Sealing

August 18, 2022 by Alav

The process of sandstone cleaning in Sydney is most used for driveways and other surfaces that are made of concrete. The sealing should apply each year, so the life of concrete on various surfaces can increase. It’s not only the driveways but sidewalks; patio and pool decks need to have their concrete sealed once in a year. Concrete can stay in good condition on its own, but we can’t deny the importance of proper sealing. If you have stained or etched concrete surfaces in your house or other buildings, you should consider getting it appropriately sealed. Winter road salt is an enemy of concrete, and it can damage any surface. If you want the concrete slabs to look perfect and last for a long time, you can hire an expert to do your task. A layman doesn’t have any knowledge to handle such things. You can look for a suitable and affordable option so your time and money can be saved.

How to apply a concrete sealer?

If you hire an expert, they will know how to apply the sealer properly. They will clean the surface and make it dry before applying anything. Concrete coating will require some time, so you to be patient. Some professionals use detergent and soap to clean the concrete slab, so the sealing is proper. They even patch the area and take all the necessary precautions before starting anything. Make sure that you don’t come in contact with a sealer as it is harmful to your eyes and skin. The experts wear proper clothes and gloves to protect themselves from an accident. Reading the instructions on the label becomes a necessity if you are planning to try out the sealing yourself. Usually, one bottle of a sealer has enough material to cover an area of 250-300 square inches. Two to three coats are applied to give an elegant touch, and it has to dry thoroughly under the sun.

Types of concrete sealers

There are different types of sealers available in the market, and they all serve different purposes. You have to see which concrete area needs to be sealed. The Acrylic resin-based sealers provide the excellent finishing touch, and the cost isn’t high either. Epoxy sealers come at a higher price, but they don’t boast of great features. If you coat a patio or a sidewalk with Epoxy, the areas may become slippery. It will not let the concrete breather from within, which can fade away the natural qualities too. The resin-based sealers can turn yellow under intense sunlight, which becomes a problem. Penetrating sealers turn out to be the best option when it comes to protecting the concrete.
